CREATIVE EUROPE

 

The European Commission proposal for a new EU programme for the cultural and creative sector, 2014-2020 Europe needs to invest more in its cultural and creative sector because it significantly contributes to economic growth, employment, innovation and social cohesion.

Creative Europe will safeguard and promote cultural and linguistic diversity and strengthen the competitiveness of the cultural and creative sectors.

 

 

Creative Europe:

• Helps the cultural and creative sector to seize the opportunities of the ‘digital age’ and globalisation

• Enables the sector to reach its potential so that it can contribute to the Europe 2020 goals for sustainable growth, jobs and social cohesion.

• Opens up new international opportunities, markets and audiences

• Builds on the success of the MEDIA and Culture programmes Creative Europe contributes to Europe 2020, the EU's strategy for jobs and growth.

 

This proposal is now under discussion by the Council (27 Member States) and the European Parliament who will take the final decision.

Making Tourism more sustainable

Supporting the enhancement and promotion of sustainable transnational thematic tourism products

DEADLINE: 3rd July 2013

The overall objectives of the call for proposals are the following:

• to support the enhancement and promotion of sustainable transnational thematic tourism products contributing to the development and promotion of sustainable tourism in Europe by improving their visibility and market uptake.

• to contribute to the creation of an environment favorable to transnational co-operation among tourism-related stakeholders with a particular emphasis on the SMEs.

A transnational thematic tourism product is meant as made up of a set of tourism destinations, attractions, services and taking the form of a transnational route/itinerary/trail/tourism offer, either physical (based on physical infrastructure) or conceptual (linking places/destinations/attractions) having a common thematic link and a high potential for sustainable tourism development.

Green future travelling

Future travelling call

DEADLINE: 4th NOVEMBER 2013

The call aims at ensuring options for future travelling in a green, smart, safe, user-friendly, efficient and integrated transportation system by coordinating national/regional funding programs in order to fund transnational RTI project.

RTI projects can address aspects of both or either one of the research questions in the following domains:

• Future Vehicle Technologies (technology oriented research domain)

• Traveller of the Future (social, organizational and technological research domain)

Future vehicle technologies, novel information and communication system, as well as social innovations and new organizational models, will help to create more sustainable mobility in European cities and at the same time ensure adequate accessibility and mobility options in rural areas.

 

BENEFICIARIES: Transport infrastructure operators and infrastructure managers, Public transport operators and transport infrastructure operators, Industry, Governmental Organizations, Non-Governmental Organizations, Academia.

PARTECIPATING COUNTRIES/REGIONS: Austria, Basque Country, Belarus, Catalonia, Flanders, Germany, Israel, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Turkey.

RegioStars Awards

The objective of the RegioStars Awards is to identify good practices in regional development and to highlight original and innovative projects which could be attractive and inspiring to other regions. The RegioStars awards form part of the Commission's Regions for Economic Change initiative, which aims to highlight good practice in urban and regional development.

The Award Categories for 2014 are:

1: Smart Growth: SME innovation

2: Sustainable Growth: Green growth and jobs through Bio-economy

3: Inclusive Growth: Creating jobs for the young generation

4: CityStar: Investment projects in sustainable urban public transport

5: Major Investment Projects: Energy efficiency and the low carbon economy

Applications should be sent by 19 April 2013 to the electronic address REGIO-STARS@ec.europa.eu . The selected finalists will have the opportunity to showcase their projects before an independent jury during the eleventh annual European Week of Regions and Cities - OPEN DAYS 2013. The Award ceremony itself will take place in Brussels in early 2014.

Clean Sky programme

European funding for research: Clean Sky

Clean Sky is the most ambitious aeronautical research programme ever launched in Europe. Its mission is to develop breakthrough technologies to significantly increase the environmental performances of airplanes and air transport, resulting in less noisy and more fuel efficient aircraft, hence bringing a key contribution in achieving the Single European Sky environmental objectives. 

The Clean Sky JTI (Joint Technology Initiative) was born in 2008 and represents a unique Public-Private Partnership between the European Commission and the industry. It is managed by the Clean Sky Joint Undertaking (CSJU). The CSJU will deliver demonstrators in all segments of civil air transport, grouped into six technological areas called 'Integrated Technology Demonstrators' (ITD). 

AAL - Ambient assisted living

Deadline: 30 April 2013 

Call 6 aims at the development of ICT-based solutions which enable older adults to continue managing their occupation – at work in an office, a factory or any working environment; in a first or subsequent career, in paid or voluntary occupation including local social activities – while preserving health and motivation to remain active. Occupation in the context of this Call 6 is defined as paid and unpaid activity that results in benefit for the community, society and economy. 

The AAL Joint Programme is looking for ICT solutions to promote, enhance and sustain: 

• paid activity (including but not exclusive to professional, entrepreneurial/small business and self-employment) 
• unpaid activity (e.g. volunteering, knowledge sharing, counselling).

 The AAL Joint Programme aims at innovative and ICT-based solutions delivered through applied research and development activities, which are financially sustainable and underpinned by a credible business case at proposal submission stage. Projects are expected to target market needs and demands

JPI Cultural Heritage Programme

JPI Cultural Heritage Programme 

Deadline: 5 April 2013

Research topics: 

1. Methods, tools (including non-invasive instruments) and modelling for understanding damage and decay mechanisms (including the effects of weathering and climate change) on tangible heritage (including buildings, sites and landscapes); 

2. Materials, technologies and procedures for the conservation of tangible cultural heritage; 

3. Use and re-use of buildings and landscapes, including the relationship between changes of use and public policy, including costs and added value (for example as a result of planning regulations and urban development); 

4. Increasing understanding of cultural values, valuation, interpretation, ethics and identity around all forms of cultural heritage (tangible, intangible and digital heritage). 

 The project must have a maximum duration of 36 months

FP7: Era-chairs pilot

FP7 Capacities Programme: Research Potential

The ¨ERA Chairs¨ Concept:

The objective is to support public universities and other eligible research organisations, with a demonstrated potential for research excellence, in developing their potential so that they can achieve excellence on a sustainable basis.
 Research organisations interested in appointing an ERA Chair will have to commit to introduce measures and activities to facilitate the structural change and put in place the conditions needed to develop excellent research and to fully benefit from the ERA Chair.

Activities should be focused on achieving concrete and clearly identified objectives.

The size of the ERA Chair research team to be recruited under the grant is expected to be at least of 300 months of full-time work equivalent (person/month). The ERA Chair holder will have flexibility in timely using the personnel according with the project needs.

EU ICI-ECP PROGRAMME FOR JOINT MOBILITY PROJECTS (JMP) AND JOINT DEGREE PROJECTS (JDP)

EU ICI-ECP programme for joint mobility projects and joint degree projects Deadline: 15 May 2013

The Industrialised Countries Instrument (ICI) promotes co-operation between the European Union and seventeen industrialised and other high-income countries and territories in North America, the Asia-Pacific region and the Gulf region.

One of the supported specific actions promotes "people-to-people links" with the aim to enhance mutual understanding between cultures and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge. 

This 2012 ICI-ECP Call for Proposals supports co-operation with Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea by means of Joint Degree projects (JDP) and Joint Mobility projects  (JMP). 

Such projects focus on structured exchanges of students and faculty members; and on the joint development of joint or shared curricula and joint study programmes, as well as on the award of joint or double degrees in the case of Joint Degree projects. 

All projects must address: 

• development of innovative international curricula; 
• student services, 
• language and cultural preparation; 
• organisational frameworks for student mobility and faculty members' mobility; 
• evaluation; 
• sustainability and dissemination.
