EU GRANT FUND FOR STRENGTHENING JOINT EUROPEAN S&T CENTRES IN INDIA

DEADLINE: MARCH 13^TH, 2011.

INDICATIVE BUDGET : 250.000 € for each project.

BENEFICIARIES:

The eligible joint institutes must be the result of institutional arrangements based on a bilateral or multilateral agreement, contract or memorandum of understanding between at least one partner – government, ministry or a research organisation – of an EU Member State or Associated Country with a counterpart in INDIA. The eligible joint centre is an organisation, which is an independent legal entity established in India, whose aim is to facilitate joint science and innovation related activities through co-funding of projects.

The  goal is to support the opening of the institutional arrangement of joint centres funded by one or several Member States and Associated Countries and located in India.

The activity does not aim at regrouping existing liaison offices, which purpose is to promote national research programmes or organisations from the Member States or Associated countries.

It targets joint centres, which aims are to promote collaborative research programmes in fundamental and applied sciences between one or several Member State or Associated Countries and one third country through co-funding mechanisms.

The objective of the activity is to prepare the way for opening the institutional arrangement of the joint centres to additional European organisations thus helping Member States and Associated Countries develop coordinated activities with third countries

BENEFICIARIES:

A Eurostars project is collaborative, meaning it must involve at least two participants (legal entities) from two different Eurostars member countries:

• Main participant: one R&D-performing SME from a Eurostars member country (i.e. a SME that invests 10% or more of its turn-over or its full-time equivalent personal in research and development activities).

• Other entities: Any type of organisation (small and medium-sized enterprise, large company, university, research centre).
  
  ACTIVITIES:
  The activities to be implemented include:
  • Industrial research activities (planned research or critical investigations aimed at gaining new knowledge, which has to be exploited in order to develop new products, processes or services, or else to allow a significant improvement of the already existing ones).
    
  • Experimental development activities (acquisition, combination, structuring and use of the existing knowledge and skills: these can have either a scientific, technological or commercial nature, in order to produce plans, projects or designs for new products, processes or services, amended or enhanced).

RESEARCHERS’ GRANT FUNDS

The European Research Council (ERC) funds every year excellent research projects in any scientific discipline aiming at broadening the scientific and technological knowledge ("frontier research"). Top researchers of any nationality and  from anywhere in the world can apply, as long as  their ERC project will be carried out in a public or private institution based in Europe ( EU Member State  or Associated Country ). The grants are for up to 5 years.

KEY POINTS:

• All fields of research are eligible
  
• All researchers are eligible: from any country in the world, regardless of nationality, type of institution, or age 
  
  
  
  Two types of ERC grants:

• Starting Grants, for the best researchers with 2 to 10 years of experience after their PhD;
  
• Advanced Grants, for top research leaders, with at least 10 years of experience and significant research achievements
  

• Attractive long-term funding: each project can receive up to 2 Million € (for Starting Grants) or up to 3.5 Million € (for Advanced Grants), for up to 5 years

Partner profile sought:

INDUSTRIAL PARTNER: may be an industrial organization, financial or government, ideally a credit Institute. It has technical resources able to experience the solution. Operates in a business environment characterized by complex ICT infrastructures. Normally uses methodologies for testing and validation of ICT solutions.

 

TECHNICAL PARTNERS: The partner sought could be either technical or scientific, has resources capable to perform application development, has expertise in the field of information security with particular reference to issues relating to risk management. It has a technological infrastructure required for the provisioning, development and testing of application modules implemented. Use useful methodologies to ensure the Software life cycle processes.
